5 Reasons To Book Airbnb Experiences📸

When I travel, my goal is to immerse myself in the culture of the city. I want to learn about the history, the food, the nightlife and most importantly - the people.

Airbnb experiences are a great way to do all of these things and more!

(1) Introduce Yourself To The City

Airbnb experiences provide a great way to get the lay of the land. Whether the host picks you up from your accommodation or you make the journey yourself, you’ll be able to see some of the city while en route to your tour meeting point.

My first Airbnb experience was a photography session with Rafael in the Rio city center. It was mostly a walking tour (my favorite way to experience a new city - on foot). And it didn’t hurt that my host was easy on the eyes. 😏

During the 20 minute Uber ride, I was able to see so much of the city which made me feel more familiar with my surroundings on future tours.

(2) Learn The History

If you’re a history enthusiast, then booking an Airbnb experience is a wonderful way to learn the history of the city.

My second experience was an Old Town City Tour hosted by Carlos. He is a lawyer with a passion for the history of Rio and conducted tours in his spare time. I learned so much on my tour - way more than I would have grasped from a historically based article or book. Plus, I visited The Steps for the first time - something I would not have felt safe doing solo.

(3) Meet New People

If you’re traveling solo, booking an experience is a great way to meet new people. Whether the host becomes a fast friend or you happen to click with the other tourists, it is a great way to experience something new with others.

Depending on where you are traveling, COVID restrictions vary. These restrictions will determine the number of people who will join the experience or if there will be an Airbnb experience available at all.

Most of my Airbnb experiences have been just myself and the guide - which is great, because then I have a private tour! Some have had other tourists join which honestly has been hit or miss. As a result I have either made lifelong friends or have met people I’ll never see again.

(4) Save Money

Airbnb experiences are typically cheaper than other tour companies. My guess for this would be that locals are pricing the activities and they don’t have as many costs as large tour companies do.

In the past, I have forked over big bucks to Viator, an international travel company, and more recently to local travel companies I used while in Paraguay and Peru, because they did not have Airbnb experiences available. Gracias a COVID. 😷

Although cheaper, I had incredible experiences from local guides - so pricing definitely does not correlate to value. In this case, you get way more than you pay for!

(5) Support Locals

My favorite part of booking Airbnb experiences is supporting the local community! Hosts are typically operating small businesses. So if you enjoy shopping small, then this is a great way to support the small business owners of the city you’re touring.

Have you ever booked an Airbnb experience? If not, then will you give it a try after reading this?
