Oro: My First Michelin Star Restaurant Experience đ€©
Oro is one of 500 restaurants in the world with two Michelin stars! Before enjoying this culinary experience, Iâd never had any interest in visiting a restaurant with a Michelin star. Now, I see what all the hype is about! đ
I decided to order the criatividade (creativity) which was R$ 555 or about $113 USD. Quite a steal for a tasting menu!
Ostra, caipirinha e torresmo (Oyster with âcaipirinhaâ sorbet and pork crackling) - I ate it in one bite and didnât know it would be cold. đ It hit a sensitive part of my tooth and I had a headache for hours as a result. đ„ Otherwise, it was an interesting mix of flavors and textures.
Pescado, mate e cĂtricos (Smoked fish, tapioca and citrus - blurry đȘ) - Absolutely delish! The raw fish perfectly complemented the tiny bursts of citrus fruits. I really enjoyed the crunchy finish.
Vieiras e cajĂș amigo (Scallops and cashews) - Interesting mix of sweet and savory. I never thought nuts and fish went together, but now my eyes have been opened! đł
Bacalhau, couve e chorizo (kale, codfish and chorizo) - Best kale chip Iâve ever had! The mix of fish and sausage brought a new meaning to the term surf & turf - resulting in a pleased palate! đ€
PĂŁo de queijo e pralinĂ© de castanhas (PĂŁo de queijoâ and cashewnut pralinĂ©) top - Didnât expect it, but it was very sweet! Cashew butter and cheese - such an incredible combo! I recommend to end this series of tastings with this one.
Polvo e moqueca (âMoquecaââ blini and octopus) middle - Not my favorite to be honest. Probably should have started with this one, because after the super sweet pĂŁo de queijo, this tasted a bit bland.
Batata doce e laranja cristalizada (Sweet potato tempura and orange) bottom - After the octopus, this had a nice finish although the tartlet was a bit dry.
Empadinha de milho e foie gras (Corn pie and foie gras) - Really nice flavor and that sauce - soy? balsamic perhaps? No clue! Sweet and salty - I loved it!
Carne crua, pera e gema curada (Steak tartare temaki and cured egg yolk) - The cone had a nice crunch to it. Iâm glad I didnât know it featured egg yolk, because I would have totally been grossed out! Splendid mix of flavors and textures! đ
CamarĂŁo e chuchu (Shrimp mocchi and chayote) - Very cute presentation! The textures were fun. đ€©
Brioche de vapor, porco e abacaxi (Steamed Brioche, Pork and Pineapple) - My favorite dish from the com as mĂŁos (hand foods) menu!
Isnât this the cutest pulled pork sandwich! I tried to savor it by taking three small bites. đ
Cavaquinha, pistache e alho porĂł (Brazilian lobster pistachio and leek) - I mean can you ever go wrong with lobster? Magnificent! Iâm a leek lover! đ
Curry de vegetais, cambuci e óleo de café (Vegetables in curry with coffee oil) - Loved the mix of coffee and curry in this dish. Neither flavor overpowered the other. Excellent way to do vegetables.
Porco e maçã âqueimadaâ (Pork belly and burnt apple) - I wish the apples would have been a tad more cooked. They were quite crunchy which was hard to eat with the pork belly. I had to shift them to the plate and cut separately. Still a great mix of flavors. This was my second favorite dish.
Costela de boi, castanha portuguesa e tutano (Beef rib, chestnut, bone marrow and celery) - Ohhhh the bone marrow pĂątĂ©. đ€€ Ok - maybe this was my second favorite dish! Hard to choose between this and the pork belly. Do I have to choose a second favorite? đ
Gema, cajĂĄ e amĂȘndoas (Almond cake, egg yolk and caja fruit) - The perfect finish to a perfect meal! Again with the mix of textures and flavors. There was no taste bud left behind!
What do you think? Would you try an experience like this for $113? đ
